The cost of mulching will increase or decrease based upon a number of factors. This article is intended to provide you a checklist of questions to ask yourself and your landscaping service.

What type of area do I need to mulch?

$ - When mulching an easily accessible, large open area.

$$ - When mulch needs to be spread around trees, flower beds, and other more challenging areas.

What kind of mulch do I need?

$ - When using an economy, wood mulch blend.

$$ - When using a natural hardwood (cedar, cypress, or pine).

$$ - When using a shredded bark or bark chip.

$$ - When using a colored or dyed mulch (gold, red, black, etc.).

$$ - When using an inorganic mulch like gravel, rocks, or rubber.

Will I be ordering mulch in bags or in bulk?

$ - When ordering mulch in bulk by the cubic yard from a garden center or landscape.

$$ - When ordering mulch by the bag.

How far will the mulch need to be delivered?

$0 – There is typically free delivery when ordering 4+ cubic yards.

$ - When delivered within a 10 mile radius.

$$ - When delivered outside of a 10 mile radius.

Will the mulch need to be spread??

$0 - When mulch is only delivered and unloaded.

$$ - When the mulch is spread by hand.

$$ - When the mulch is spread with a bark blower.

Do I want to install a landscape fabric or layer of black plastic mulch?

$$ - When a landscape fabric or black plastic is installed under a layer of organic mulch.

Do I want the landscapers to remove weeds or edge the lawn?

$0 - When you personally prepare your garden and lawn for mulching.

$$ - When the landscapers edge the lawn and prepare the area for mulching by pulling weeds and removing debris.

How deep do I want the mulch to be spread?

$ - When a 2-inch layer of mulch is spread.

$$ - When a 4+ inch layer of mulch is spread.
